Don’t miss the citadel of Château-d’Oléron, a fortification built according to Vauban’s plans and now hosting exhibitions. Opposite, you will find the Fort Louvois dating from the 17th century. Visit also the lighthouse of Chassiron with black and white stripes in the north of the island near Saint-Denis-d’Oléron. Classified as a historical monument, it is one of the oldest French lighthouses still in operation.

On the nature side, discover the Jardins de la Boirie, the Marais aux oiseaux or the Port des Salines, in Grand-Village-Plage, with a guided tour of the salt marsh. Oyster farming is a traditional activity on the island of Oleron. Discover the oyster beds and taste this seafood directly from the producers.
